About
Food Storage Date Label Calculator is a simple reference tool for home food storage. It helps visitors turn a food, a storage location, and a starting date into a clear label for a refrigerator, freezer, or pantry. The goal is practical: make it easier to remember what was stored and use food while it is still at its best.
How the Tool Works
Visitors select a food and the place where it will be stored. The calculator applies the corresponding storage-time entry and displays a date label. A label is a planning aid, not a test of whether food is safe. Safe handling begins before storage and continues through preparation, cooling, packaging, and temperature control.
Our Data Source
Storage guidance in this project is derived from the USDA FoodKeeper data published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. The source dataset is publicly available through the FSIS FoodKeeper Data catalog entry. We identify the source so visitors can review the underlying public information and consult official guidance when needed.
What We Do Not Claim
We do not conduct laboratory testing, inspect food in a visitor's kitchen, or certify food as safe. We do not claim endorsement by the USDA or any other government agency. Storage outcomes depend on details the tool cannot observe, including appliance temperature, cross-contamination, packaging condition, and the food's history before it reached your home.
Using Information Responsibly
Use the calculator alongside package instructions, local public-health guidance, and official recall information. When a result conflicts with a product label or an official notice, follow the more specific and authoritative instruction. If food has been held at an unsafe temperature, shows signs of spoilage, or raises doubt, do not rely on a date label alone.
Feedback
This is an independent informational website. Feedback about missing foods, unclear results, accessibility, or technical problems helps us improve it. Send useful details, including the food name and storage method you selected, to [email protected].
